Did you know that in the United States, breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women? At Elite Gynecology, Dr. Guichard and Dr. Molly McBride provides breast cancer screening to all of her patients, reducing their risk of developing this deadly disease. With an office located conveniently in the heart of New York City, Dr. McBride can reduce your risk. Call the Manhattan office today or schedule your initial consultation with the online booking agent.
During breast cancer screening, Dr. McBride looks for signs of breast cancer before they become symptomatic. These screenings lead to early diagnosis and early treatment, both of which can mean the difference between life and death. Catching breast cancer before it spreads to other areas leads to better treatment outcomes and success rates.
Dr. McBride does some level of breast cancer screening on all of her patients during their yearly examination. Your age and risk factors determine the types of screenings she recommends.
Dr. McBride performs a clinical breast exam on each patient during their yearly physical. She asks you to put your arms above your head and uses her hands to feel around your breast in a circular pattern, looking for lumps, hard areas, or any other abnormalities.
She also reviews how to do self-breast checks, a vital component of breast cancer screenings. She shows you how to perform a self-breast exam and asks that you perform them regularly, reporting any changes or concerns that may arise.
For those with a normal risk of breast cancer, Dr. McBride advises a yearly mammogram (an X-ray of the breast) between the ages of 45-74. For those with a high risk of developing cancer, she may recommend starting mammograms earlier or having them more frequently. High-risk patients may also benefit from a breast MRI, which uses magnets and radio waves to see the inside of the breast.
Mammograms and breast MRIs aren’t currently available at Elite Gynecology, but the friendly team can facilitate your scheduling.
If Dr. McBride sees something concerning in your breast cancer screening, she recommends further testing. She may suggest:
She may also recommend adding a cancer specialist to your treatment team to discuss other options.
